Econométrics & Statistics

The Econometrics & Statistics Master’s degree offered by ISFA covers Risk Engineering and Applied Econometrics.
Until now, ISFA risk engineers were taught under the SAFIR Master’s Degree in Risk Engineering. An innovation of the 2016 reopening of the university was to merge this course with the EQUADE (Quantitative Economics for Decision Making) Applied Econometrics course, to create our new Master’s degree in Econometrics & Statistics.

A course designed for risk engineers ...

In our modern society, making decisions, which are by nature risky, is becoming ever more complex. Practical issues are also as universal (e.g. the lengthening of life) as they are close to everyday life (e.g. health access). Dealing with these questions requires relying on a cross-discipline approach (applied mathematics, econometrics, statistics, management, computer sciences, …) in order to understand behaviours, to model and to quantify risks.

The areas of employment for our students following their course range from Risk Managers, Data Scientists, Decision Makers, to Business Analysts.

The aim of our Master’s degree is to train managers, consultants and design engineers, competent in the fields of business management, risk analysis and decision making.
The training is based on the cross-disciplinarity which brings together applied mathematics, computer sciences, big data processing, finance, insurance and law to analyse behaviours, to model and to quantify risks.

The controlling of risks is a major issue for business: reacting to consequences of the lengthening of life, global warming, the emergence of cyber risks; imagining a health access policy; deciding between protecting (risk sharing) and inciting (financing); covering new financial and insurance risks; and using massive datasets to develop new models for decision making.

After a common core syllabus in the 1st year, the course offers 5 specialities for the 2nd year of the degree.
